Whether you’re looking to plan a day trip or a weekend get-a-away, Georgina is the perfect destination to escape your daily life, slow down and relax.

Get out and get active

Georgina Trails

The fall weather is perfect for getting out and enjoying a beautiful hike or bike ride. More than 100 kilometres of established trails will take you through forests, while others offer amazing views of Lake Simcoe, rivers, parks and ponds. Use the trail guides to learn about the trail systems with a combination of bike lanes, paved shoulders and off-road trails in Keswick, Sutton and Pefferlaw. The trail brochure will help you navigate between Georgina’s communities safely.

On Oct. 17, Georgina will host a half and full marathon. A Boston Marathon qualifying race, the route will showcase the beautiful shoreline of Lake Simcoe. Make it a weekend getaway, spending your Saturday exploring local attractions like the Military Museum or shopping downtowns. Fuel up for the race with a meal at one of the many local restaurants.

Lake Simcoe in the fall

Lake Simcoe

The cooler weather doesn’t mean your fun on Lake Simcoe has to stop. The fall winds provide the perfect kite surfing weather. With less traffic on the lake and shallow beach entrances, kite surfers are really able to take flight, accessing Cook’s Bay through many of the public beaches or boat launches. Due to the nature of the sport and the need for correct wind direction, lessons can be booked the day of or in advance. Ukiteboard School and Coaching is a local Georgina business that enjoys teaching their beginner lessons near Cook’s Bay.

Only when the ice is forming or melting is it not a time to fish on Lake Simcoe. With many species available to fish year-round, you’ll always experience world-class fishing on Lake Simcoe. Find a public boat launch or connect with a local marina for watercraft rentals.

Enjoy the fall harvest

Georgina Farms

Fall is a great time to get out and explore the local farms. From sweet, crisp apples for eating and baking, to firm, bright squashes and gourds for soups or decorations, Georgina’s farms will provide all your fall produce essentials. Homestead Orchards has more than 20 varieties of fresh apples available. View its website to see which apples are in season and for recommendations on how to best bake with them. Head to Holtrop farm in Keswick to pick up fall produce like pumpkins and gourds. The Georgina Farmers’ Market will have fresh produce available until the last market of the season in October.

Experience the Georgina art scene

Georgina Art

With the beautiful muse that Georgina provides and strong support for the arts, it is no wonder why so many artists and artisans call Georgina home. On the last weekend of September, attend the annual Georgina Studio Tour. This self-guided tour features more than 30 artists at 23 different locations throughout Georgina, most located outdoors.

Fall brings a time of transitions and changes for the Georgina Centre for the Arts and Culture. To celebrate the retirement of Executive Director Grant Peckford, he has curated an exhibition of its permanent collection. Opening the vault and showcasing pieces that haven’t been displayed in years, this event will appeal to regulars and newcomers. The exhibition is tentatively scheduled to start in mid-October and will run until the end of the year. Do not miss this rare opportunity to view the locally inspired pieces that are unique to any other collection. Consisting of Indigenous art, contemporary pieces, sculpture and amazing photographic pieces, everyone is encouraged to come and experience the exhibition and take part in the celebration. This exhibit is free and open to the public.

Spend time in the beautiful downtown areas

Georgina Downtowns

Lined with one-of-a-kind stores selling unique finds, Georgina’s downtown areas are a great place to shop boutiques, antiques and grab a seasonal drink or meal at a cafe or restaurant. With many of the stores selling Georgina Made products, you’ll be sure to find pieces you won’t find anywhere else. All three offer easily walkable experiences just a short distance from Lake Simcoe. Enjoy the slower pace and small-town charm while you find everything you’re looking for and more.
